Reflection 4. What´s my real commitment with my students after studying english in this convenio

Commitment is my favorite word. I hope to do some of my informatic classes in English and participate in a collaborative project on community problems and possible solutions. This project we work on an educational platform called www.thinkquest.org that allows integration with students from around the world. Where they have to send messages, discuss how to solve problems and build the project. That's where I hope to apply what I learned

Aerosmith - I Don't Wanna Miss A Thing

I could stay awake just to hear you breathing
Watch you smile while you are sleeping
While you're far away and dreaming
I could spend my life in this sweet surrender
I could stay lost in this moment forever
Well, every moment spent with you
Is a moment I treasure
I don't wanna close my eyes
I don't wanna fall asleep
'Cause I'd miss you, baby
And I don't wanna miss a thing
'Cause even when I dream of you
The sweetest dream would never do
I'd still miss you, baby
And I don't wanna miss a thing
Lying close to you
Feeling your heart beating
And I'm wondering what you're dreaming
Wondering if it's me you're seeing
Then I kiss your eyes and thank God we're together
And I just wanna stay with you
In this moment forever, forever and ever
I don't wanna close my eyes
I don't wanna fall asleep
'Cause I'd miss you, baby
And I don't wanna miss a thing
'Cause even when I dream of you
The sweetest dream would never do
I'd still miss you, baby
And I don't wanna miss a thing
I don't wanna miss one smile
I don't wanna miss one kiss
Well, I just wanna be with you
Right here with you, just like this
I just wanna hold you close
Feel your heart so close to mine
And just stay here in this moment
For all the rest of time
Don't wanna close my eyes
Don't wanna fall asleep
'Cause I'd miss you, baby
And I don't wanna miss a thing
'Cause even when I dream of you
The sweetest dream would never do
'Cause I'd still miss you, baby
And I don't wanna miss a thing
I don't wanna close my eyes
I don't wanna fall asleep
'Cause I'd miss you, baby
And I don't wanna miss a thing
'Cause even when I dream of you
The sweetest dream would never do
I'd still miss you, baby
And I don't wanna miss a thing
Don't wanna close my eyes
Don't wanna fall asleep, yeah
I don't wanna miss a thing
I don't wanna miss a thing

According to the information of the webpage http://www.p21.org
Framework for 21st Century Learning
The Framework presents a holistic view of 21st century teaching and learning that combines a discrete focus on 21st century student outcomes (a blending of specific skills, content knowledge, expertise and literacies) with innovative support systems to help students master the multi-dimensional abilities required of them in the 21st century.

The key elements of 21st century learning are represented in the graphic and descriptions below. The graphic represents both 21st century skills student outcomes (as represented by the arches of the rainbow) and 21st century skills support systems (as represented by the pools at the bottom).

      Today, students will :
Critical Thinking and Problem solving
Print

Reason Effectively
  • Use various types of reasoning (inductive, deductive, etc.) as appropriate to the situation
Use Systems Thinking
  • Analyze how parts of a whole interact with each other to produce overall outcomes in complex systems

  1. Pre-assessment
  1. Students
Three things must come together in the classroom: One, students must reason (a bridge from their present thinking to the new thinking you are looking for); Two, students must reason about the content (the new way you want them to think); and Three, there must be a "hook" (recognition of studentsí present thinking) so that students will be willing to do the first two. In Richard Paulís words, "When your students are learning well, they are employing the logic of their own thinking as a tool in learning. They are reasoning their way into the logic of the content. They are getting their minds into the logic of a somewhat new system, a somewhat new way of thinking, so you need to give them assignments and design activities that help them to bridge between these two, their old thinking and the new."

  1. Learning Environment
We need to have a computer room with good internet connection.
  1. Materials / Resources
Students should know how to handle ThinkQuest.  ThinkQuest is a learning platform where teachers and students create learning projects.

  1. Content ( The What )
According to the problem that group of the student choose, so:
Make Judgments and Decisions
  • Effectively analyze and evaluate evidence, arguments, claims and beliefs
  •  Analyze and evaluate major alternative points of view
  • Synthesize and make connections between information and arguments
  • Interpret information and draw conclusions based on the best analysis
  • Reflect critically on learning experiences and processes
Solve Problems
  • Solve different kinds of non-familiar problems in both conventional and innovative ways
Identify and ask significant questions that clarify various points of view and lead to better solutions.

  1. Teaching/ Learning Strategies ( The How)
Integrate learning projects into your classroom curriculum. Choose a topic, assign students, invite teachers, and collaborate with members around the world.
Projects come to life when students create pages with text, pictures, multimedia, votes, brainstorms, debates, and messages.
  1. Introduction of the  activity, routines and procedures
1. Teach the basics of tool use.
2. identify which is the most critical issue in your community, doing a survey among the groups.
3. Study the main causes of the problem
4. Propose possible solutions to the problem
5. Evaluate what solutions are the best

  1. Lesson conclusion
Finally, all work will be published on the platform  allowing other groups to see the results and they can give their opinions and to build collaborative solutions.
  1. Assessment
There will be two times. A self-assessment and evaluation by another group, where they will face both collaborated with colleagues and the innovativeness of their participation.

I liked a lot the book. It´s a good and interesting story. It describes some situations of the real life, especially in the school in our jobs. For example, I hope in my class always a silent of my students, but no always they want to do it. So in any cases the noise is very high, and when they are interesting in them activities and they want to learn, then a bit of noise isn´t problem.
Other things very important of the story is the way to act of the Sean Murphy, the man worker. He accepted the advices of the Clever Woman, without ask her. He always hoped that the woman would remedy.
Similarly Linda McCormark acted without thought of reward to give advice.
